Description
Built between 1828 and 1850, this canal followed the Potomac River for 184 miles from between Cumberland, Md., and Washington, D.C. This handbook's innovative original artwork shows how the canal was built, how its water system worked, and the layout of lockhouses and boats. Full-color and historic black-and-white photos accompany the narrative history, natural history, nearby historic sites, hiking, biking, canoeing, and canal-side towns.
